We published our first newsletter!!!

I do want to apologize for a few things on the site. Currently we are in the process of adding a new and improved Facebook style profile for our users. This is why you may have notice a few error on the site every once and a while. The last one we had just wasn't what we wanted.

New Features include:
·    Personal Profile
·    Photo Albums
·    Flickr Integration
·    Imeem Media Player(MP3 Playlist)
·    Groups
·    ....Your Suggestion Here

We will start to add more courses to the directory soon. It is a daunting task, so feel free to help out by logging into the site,go the courses page and click your state, there should be a link like "Add your listing here" or something along those lines.
Do you like to rant and rave about things in golf? Do you want to report on something in your area? Then send me an email at matt(at)evolutionofgolf.com about what you want to write about. We would love toget some user generated content on the site.

Can you remember the last time was you were asked"What do you want on a golf website?" Well that is what we are asking you. We are up for any ideas that you may have. All of you ideas are good ones, so please email us back. Is there something you don't like about this site? Tell us. We are here to provide you with a Kick....Butt website.

Lastly, are you still with us? I am pretty sure I lost everyone after the first couple of paragraphs, but here it goes. Who is behind Evolution of Golf? Paul & Matt both PGA Apprentices Levels 1 & 3started the idea of this site about a year and a half ago. We have since added a friend, JR (another PGA Apprentice). As you can see we have a lot of PGA backing and connections. That is why we are so happy about the site. No we do not have any financial backing except for Google Ads that you see on the page every once and a while. We are still looking for a title Sponsor of some sort.Any ideas? I will try to keep the ads to a minimum, but web servers or any additional coding Matt needs help with do not pay for themselves.

Okay, seriously this is the last thing I will write. If you know anyone who may be able to help with creating some features preferably a PHP web developer but shoot we will take any help we can get for free Web Developers, Graphic Artist or Columnist. Once we are up and running smoothly I will let everyone know. If you want to participate in a Beta or Testing phase of the community part of the site let me know matt(at)evolutionofgolf.com. Thank again and feel free to email us anytime we can usually respond within a few hours if not sooner!

Have a good one,

Duval Falls Way Back & Norman Coasts into the Lead.

After seeing what happend to David Duval today, I do not think I should talk about Mr. Norman. Duval really just never had anything going for him right from the start. And it is pretty hard to shoot 44 on the front nine and try to even post something half decent on the backside. It is to bad to see it happen to David, but I am glad he was able to post two solid rounds this week. Hopefully he can use the Open Championship as motivation and make a few more cuts this season.

It is now time for The Shark. As far as I can tell it looks a little like the 1986 Masters and Jack Nicklaus. The fans at Royal Birkdale seem to be very inviting to Norman. It will be interesting to see if that plays true tomorrow with Padriag Harrington in the final group with Norman. But all bets aside, it has been a memorable week for Norman. But lets see if his wife's influence of Yoga pays off for The Shark.

It will be an very interesting round with six golfers within five strokes of Norman. You can never count out KJ Choi, he performs the best he can and gives it his all, all the time. You have to love that attitude.Tune in live online or check the latest Leaderboard here.

In ESPN's interview with Norman states he is keeping his expectations low like he has the last three rounds. For having low expectations this guy is sure playing relaxed 1st class golf.

David Duval Back in Contention?

Yes you read that correct. David Duval is back in contention this week at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. Duval started the tournament off with an opening round 73, followed by a second round 69. He is three shots back of KJ Choi.

But how bout The Shark. Newly married at age 53 Norman is only 1 stroke back. Can he do is the question. Tune in for Saturday's round and see.

It is good to see David back and healthy, he has missed quite a bit of golf since his back injury a few years back. Duval has only made one cut this year! Duval seems to be swinging well and looks especially happy. Good luck David!

Update:
Duval shot 44 on the front nine! He is currently 10 shots back.
Norman on the other hand is currently tied for the lead.

While watching clips on Hulu.com

Tonight I was watching a few clips online when I cam across a website call Hulu.com. Hulu allows you to watch your favorite TV shows and some movies for free. It will set you back may an extra minute for advertising but it is a small price to pay.

I completed a search on their site for "golf," the results it came up with were alright nothing special at first. Then I noticed a link about how Titleist make the golf balls, I wrote an article on this earlier you can take a look here: "How Golf Balls are Made" Anyway I found a clip that was on the Biography Channel. I watched it and it was quite interesting. The short two minute clip start Mark O'Meara, Michael Jordan and Annika Sorenstam talking about their experiences with Tiger. O'Meara goes on about the one day he was golfing with Tiger and a buddy when Tiger shot 29 on the front and 30 on the back...last time I did math that is a 59. O'Meara goes on to say how much money he lost to Tiger that day. Jordan talks about his strategy when playing Tiger even when receiving 10 strokes and Annika talks about playing from the big boy tees with Tiger. Don't get me wrong Annika is a decent driver of the golf ball but when Tiger is hitting it over 60 yards past her every hole that may make is slighly unfair.

My Latest Lesson

Last week I took a lesson from PGA Professional Ed Kelbel in the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Professional Golf Management's Swinglab. The swing lab equipment was donated by Golftec. This lab is something else let me tell you. First off there are three high speed cameras in the room that look at you and your swing. There is another camera/sensor in the hitting mat & in the ceiling. It takes pictures of your clubface prior to impact at impact and after impact to show the path that you are swinging on and if your clubface is open, square or closed. They also have a jacket that you can wear that measures different angles in your golf swing such as shoulder angle. I did not get to try this feature out but I will be back soon.

I warmed up for a little bit then when I was ready Ed had me step up to the sensor and ht a couple of shots. Ed had me come over to the computer and take a look at what he saw, it wasn't pretty. I was below plane on my back swing by a lot. He then showed me the sensors reading for impact and swing path. My clubface was 5-6 degrees open at impact (this would explain the fades I had been hitting on the range the last week) and that I had an in to out swing path. I also noticed my clubface at the top of the backswing was very closed.

We first worked on the swing plane. After about two swings I felt what Ed was trying to get across to me. Once I got the hang of that we reviewed the tape again. Funny getting my swing plane on the correct plane my clubface wasn't as closed at the top, but it still was closed. Ed pointed out to me three more things to work on, 1st thing was to shorten my backswing and 2nd was limit my hip rotation. My hips were turning to much on my backswing causing my right leg to straighten (reverse pivot) then on the downswing I would rotate to much causing my hands to be behind me, hence my clubface being 5-6 degrees open at impact. Lastly I was transfering my weight to early, my right foot was coming off the ground before impact! If you look at any professional with a modern swing you will notice they are mostly flatfooted at impact.

Ed gave me a drill to do which involves keeping my feet completely flat until I hear the club hit the ball then rotate. This drill causes me to not clear my hips to early and to keep my belt buckle looking at the ball as much as possible. I do want to thank Golftec for the wonderful donation to the UCCS PGM. I would also like to thank Mr. Kelbel for such a great lesson.

Hit it Long and Straight!
