So far in my life have I been lucky to play the courses that I have. For starters my home golf course for high school was Pumpkin Ridge - Ghost Creek. Pumpkin ridge is literally a half mile from my house. I can see it from my front door. It was very cool to have Tiger Woods win his final US Amateur at Pumpkin. Since Tiger's Win Pumpkin Ridge has hosted two US Women's Opens and a US Junior Amateur. I was a marshal at the US Women's Open in 2002 and I caddied for the US Junior Amateur. This was quite a treat being inside the ropes for major events.
We teed off in the morning, the front 9 was a disaster. Just one of those days you can't hit the ball even slightly straight. But I could not complain the views and conditions were perfect. Sunny and beautiful. On the ninth hole I finally found a little bit of a golf swing which was nice. We stopped by the snack shack and grabbed a few Gatorades. The back nine was great! The 10th hole was very memorable. Yea I bogeyed the hole, but to think Tiger won his final amateur on this hole. There is a commemorative plaque on the tee. The 18th is difficult hole driving wise. A decent carry is required from the blue and black tees. If you are not the longest hitter and make it over laying up is your best option. It is not worth the risk of whacking a three wood over the cattails. On you approach shot make sure you are not left of the green! There is a depression with a drain at the bottom. This is a very challenging chip/putt that is for sure.
Overall the 18 holes are great. I have always loved the country feel from surround farmers that the course has to offer. There are a few holes that could use a little more character, but still a great course.
